Free as a bird

There is nothing better than waking up to the sounds of the birds early in the morning. I have fun observing the birds across the farm. It takes time, but time seems to go slower when we are away from computers! And I feel free as a bird, going up and down the garden, with no schedules, no conference calls, just me and my camera! When I start to get bored, I watch the birds. The parrots pictured above come every morning!

Saffron Finch (Sicalis flaveola, canario-da-terra) standing on a lime tree. It is a common bird in Brazil that nest in cavities, like abandoned Rufous Hornero (Furnarius rufus) nests and house roofs. The male is bright yellow with an orange crown and the female is olive-brown. A lovely bird to watch.

I too love the bird sounds, especially in the early morning when the weather is warm enough to leave the windows open.
This post reminds me of waking early in my mother's house on a visit to Australia in '96, and hearing the Aussie birds, especially the Kookaburras, after being away for so many years. Pure bliss :)
I love seeing your beautiful birds!

I agree with kenju - living where there are parrots would be really neat. We lived in Australia for five years and I loved the sound of the kookaburras in our trees.

Beautiful pictures, as always!

What beautiful birds. I have several birdfeeders in our backyard right outside of our bedroom window. Today there were four woodpeckers that had bright orange spots on their faces and under their wings. They were gorgeous!

Saffron Finch - what a perfect name.

I love the sparkling colours of your birds. I remember seeing similars in East Africa. Sitting out at a breakfast restaurant there was like sitting in a live bird cage :-)
