Many people like to have african violets sitting on their kitchen windowsill, maybe because of indirect sunrays and because they are easy to grow indoors. They can make any corner brighter, and I have my violets on a small table in my balcony. I have created many new pots over the years just by leaf cuttings and I have never propagated them by seed! Each leaf I cut and plant in damp soil grows into a new violet after a few weeks. My mom used to cut many leaves and later transplant them into new pots then she would give away the new plants. After they grow, they do not like to be over watered... so I water them only when they are really dry. Also, I keep water away from their feet and leaves. Last time I posted about African violets I received many comments and I promised to post more violets, and here they are!

Beautiful shots of well presented healthy plants and flowers.
In cooler climates when they are grown on a windowsill it is advisable to elevate the pots on a little stand so that the cold air at night can drain away and not chill their roots. They only tolerate a 15 degree diurnal temperature variation.

I always grow several African violets, always indoors. I love their different colour shades.
Beautiful violets! I've never seen a pink one before!
I loved your purple ones and thought they were exotic......but these are prettier!!!! (i don't generally accept it, but i have a thing for the color pink ;D)
and did not know about them growing by leaves.......i will have to go looking for then in our local nursery, next year.....

Oh they are beautiful! I have african violets too but at the time they have no flowers. I think they´ll come soon

A friend gave me several leaf starts of 2 plants a year ago and they're growing nicely, but only a couple of flowers on one plant so far..(purple).
