My first African violet was a birthday present a long time ago and I remember it bloomed all the time. When I was in college I used to buy African violets of all colors and of course I did not take care of them, but I soon found out that they grow and bloom better if you do not water them often! That's the type of flower you want to have if you do not have time to water a plant on schedule or travel a lot. They do not miss water, but they love indirect sunlight.
My purple African violet bloomed with two different shades of purple this time as you can see on first picture, the second picture shows how it bloomed last year... maybe because now I added African violet food?
This is my entry for Today's Flowers, an event for flower lovers that runs every Sunday.

Chris: I love that first close-up of the beautiful violet.
Your violets are so pretty! Mine always died..maybe I watered them too much.
Não sabia...
Temos dessa aqui em casa e não sabia que seu nome era violeta africana.
De qualquer forma, a foto está linda
Beautiful! I've never been successful in keeping one alive for more than a month or so, and I do think they are lovely flowers.
Cris,
These are beautiful! I've missed your posts; nice to see you back. These remind me of being a kid. We used to go to the beach every Sunday in the summer. On our way home one day we went to a place that sold African Violets. My mom bought one which lasted for quite a while if I recall correctly. Thanks for bringing back a good memory.
I'm still anxiously checking my mail. I'll let you know when it gets here. :)
Lovely photo. Lovely flower.
Paz
Cris,
My dear MIL raised these so WELL - I never could.
This one is beautiful - great closeup and I love the little pot it is in.
Beautiful! Those look like my African Violets and they did the same color change on part of the flowers when they were a couple of years old.
These are lovely violets! I am used to the more dark purple ones in Australia! Great pics!
Lindas!

Cris, estou contente de vê-la no Today's. Suas fotos são um show! Também tenho várias violetas na bay-window.Elas duram demais, coitadinhas, às vezes até murcham um pouquinho, pois esqueço de regá-las, mas logo se recuperam!

They're gorgeous! I haven't had African Violets in years. Now you're making me want some again...!
Beautiful!
I so wish I had a green thumb!
Cris..No flowers, but I posted a plum cake recipe with pictures.
I am sure you and your family will love the cake for Sunday.
Gisela
Those colors are glorious! Your Pictures are beautiful Cris. A friend gave me starts of a couple of African Violets and they've grown well, although slowly. I can't wait to see flowers on them. I hope all is well and that you've enjoyed the winter. Now your spring is coming and our summer is fading...so soon.
